Two evenings of my own pile, start to finish.

These are my medals, my political pieces and one slabbed coin, photographed on a phone at the desk. I uploaded the photos, ticked the shots that belonged together, pressed Identify, and looked up the ones that deserved it. What follows is what came back. I haven’t edited a word of the drafts or touched an image. Click any cut to see it full size.

29 photographs went in. They became 11 pieces and 26 finished images. Every piece was identified and drafted; 5 were looked up, 1 of them with deep research. The whole lot came out as one ZIP and a CSV.

Two things worth watching for. The medals got Look it up, and one got Deep research, because that is where the catalog references and the real questions are; the slabbed coin only needed Identify, and its label was read straight off the holder. And where a catalog number could not be verified, the draft says so instead of making one up.

Canadian 1966 fifty cent piece struck in .800 fine silver during the reign of Elizabeth II, certified by NGC as PL 67 Cameo under certification number 5825448-017. The reverse, shown in the holder, carries the Canadian coat of arms with the crowned shield supported by the lion and unicorn, the crest and helmet above, and a wreath of maple below, with CANADA at left, 50 CENTS at right and the date 1966 across the top. The obverse of the type bears the Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the surrounding Latin legend. The visible surfaces appear bright and reflective, with frosted relief giving the contrast recognized by the cameo designation. No significant marks, toning or handling are apparent through the plastic. The NGC holder is intact and the label is clearly legible. Condition: NGC PL 67 CAMEO. A brass political campaign medalet from the 1904 United States presidential election, promoting the Republican ticket of Theodore Roosevelt and Charles W. Fairbanks. The obverse carries conjoined jugate portraits of the two candidates set within interlocking circular frames, flanked by a shield and laurel or olive branches, with the legends THEODORE ROOSEVELT and CHARLES W. FAIRBANKS around the border and a dentilled rim. The reverse bears the incuse lettered inscription REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT with the date 1904 across the field. The piece is holed at the edge, apparently for suspension as a badge or watch fob. A small uniface portrait piece featuring Theodore Roosevelt. The face shows a bust of Roosevelt facing slightly left, wearing a suit and his characteristic pince-nez spectacles, with the name ROOSEVELT in raised block letters in a curve below the truncation. The design is enclosed by a rope or cable border running around the rim. The back is blank apart from the incuse, reversed impression of the portrait and lettering showing through, which indicates a thin struck shell rather than a solid two-sided medal. A political watch fob issued for the 1916 Progressive National Convention held in Chicago. The scalloped planchet carries an integral loop at the top for attachment to a watch chain. The face shows three conjoined presidential busts in relief, a central figure flanked by a bewigged eighteenth-century statesman at left and a bearded Lincoln-like portrait at right, with the raised legend PROGRESSIVE NATIONAL CONVENTION arcing around the upper border and CHICAGO 1916 stacked vertically between the lower busts. The back is plain apart from a struck maker's cartouche reading THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO., NEWARK, N.J. around a small shield device. Surfaces are silvered over a base-metal core, with gray and dark toning in the protected areas and honest wear on the high points. Numerous fine scratches, a few rim bruises and light dirt are present. An original piece of Bull Moose era political Americana, suitable for a campaign or Chicago collection. French medal of 1820 marking the birth of Henri d'Artois, Duke of Bordeaux, later known as the Comte de Chambord. He was born on September 29, 1820, seven months after the assassination of his father, the Duc de Berry, and was hailed by royalists as the child who would carry on the Bourbon line, which is exactly the message of this medal's inscriptions. The struck side shows a helmeted female figure, in the manner of Minerva or a personified France, striding forward and lifting a naked infant in her arms while a winged dragon-like serpent writhes beneath her feet. The legend around reads GALLIAE VOTA and BORBONIDUM SPES. REGNI SALUS (the prayers of France; the hope of the Bourbons, the safety of the kingdom). In the exergue, the small panel below the design, three lines read DEO DANTE FAVENTE DELPHINA / PLAUDENTE POPULO / NASCITUR 29 7bre 1820, with a small engraver's signature at the right that is not clearly legible. The piece is uniface: the reverse is blank, scratched and file-marked, with gray surface deposits, and a small hole is pierced through the top edge for suspension. Condition: Uniface piece pierced with a small hole at the top edge; the struck side shows even brown surfaces with light rubbing on the high points of the drapery and helmet and a small light-colored mark at the left field, while the blank back is heavily scratched, file-marked and has gray and whitish encrustation. Large bronze award medal from the International Exhibition held in London in 1862, the successor to the Great Exhibition of 1851. The dies were engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon of the Royal Mint after a design by the painter Daniel Maclise, R.A.; both artists' names appear in small letters in the field. One side carries an allegorical scene: Britannia seated with a lion resting at her feet, surrounded by female figures personifying Industry, Agriculture, Science and the Arts, one holding a spinning wheel and another a sheaf of grain. The other side shows a wreath of oak leaves tied with a ribbon at the bottom enclosing the inscription 1862 / LONDINI / HONORIS / CAUSA ("at London, for the sake of honor"), with the engraver's signature in tiny letters below the wreath. The piece is cataloged as BHM 2747 and Eimer 1553; the standard published size is 76.5 mm with a weight of about 213 grams. The medal shows warm medium brown surfaces with good detail in the high relief. Scattered light contact marks and a few darker spots are present in the open fields, and a small piece of blue ribbon or tape clings to the edge on the figural side. Google Arts & Culture record (Alexander Parkes example) confirms 76 mm bronze in a fitted case. No edge inscription is visible in these images.

The issue also marks the 300th anniversary of the founding of the City of New York in 1664, when the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam passed to English control. The obverse shows the Unisphere, the fair's steel globe landmark, encircled by orbit rings and set among clouds and stars, with the peripheral inscription MAN'S ACHIEVEMENTS IN AN EXPANDING UNIVERSE / NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR and the dates 1964-1965 below.
